Downtown Portland Field Trip

The Skidmore Fountain
"Good citizens are the riches of a city."

Old buildings were designed with atriums and numerous windows to let in daylight.

Brick walls were strategically made to hold weight. Our guide showed students how this was done by comparing the wall and Lego bricks.
USS Oregon

A peak inside Dan and Louis's Oyster Bar, designed to look like a ship. There were many early photos of Portland events.
Students tested the flow of the Willamette River by throwing in sticks and seeing which direction they went.

Reenacting the coin toss that determined the name of our city.

Ankeny Square

Which arches are made of cast iron and which are fiberglass?
Students used magnets to find out.

Shanghai Tunnels

The Historic Multnomah Hotel

The mast of the battleship USS Oregon stands in Tom McCall Waterfront Avenue

A historic fire engine
Portland Fire & Rescue Station 1
A paper shredding truck arrived smoking at the fire department and needed some help!
