It has been such a pleasure getting to know your third graders. Currently, each class has 25 students, and what a great group of students!

During the past week, students have been busy building their reading stamina by practicing "Read to Self" and "Read to a Partner." They've also done a lot of community building with morning meetings, a BARK tour of school expectations, student interviews and introductions, collaborative art projects, and learning about a "fixed mindset" versus a "growth mindset."

Here are a just few learning targets that have been covered during the past week:

Math

  • When I struggle, my brain is growing and synapses are firing to create pathways in the brain.
Reading
  • I can ask questions about a story and use the text to answer them.
  • I can describe how characters influence a story’s sequence of events.
  • I can distinguish one's own point of view from that of a character.

Mrs. Burch's Summer

Hi 3rd Grade Families! Welcome back to school. I hope you have all enjoyed your summer adventures. My family was very busy driving all over the Northwest. The summer began with a visit to Glacier National Park where we went on short hikes to see the beautiful glaciers. Next, we drove up into Canada to see city of Banff and Lake Louise which is pictured below. Later in the summer we visited Sunriver, explored the Seattle area, camped in various places, and stayed and played at home a lot as well!

Mrs. McGowan

Hello Friends and Families,
It was a fun and relaxing summer visiting where I grew up in Indiana then, taking time to visit Washington D.C. for a wedding. My husband and I went visiting many sites in the D.C. area and want to go back soon. After many years of teaching 2nd grade I had the opportunity to move to 3rd grade. I am looking forward to a wonderful year of teaching 3rd grade and being with such a great team of educators. Please feel free to stop in and say hi! I am looking forward to an exciting year with your children.

Mrs. Rauch's Summer

It has been a fun and exciting Summer!  We have explored Oregon and all it has to offer!  Some of our favorite outings included kayaking at Elk Lake and Trillium Lake, biking in Central Oregon, playing in the sand at the beach, and finding fun places to paddle board right here in our amazing city!  After all of our adventures, we are getting ready to settle into the excitement and routine of the new school year and enjoy the beautiful Fall in Portland!
